And so here’s a discussion topic. To my married readers…tell me about your wedding. What did you do? Where? Big and lavish? Small and intimate? Share as much or as little as you’d like.

Ours was large (about 150 attended, almost 300 invited) and in the same synagogue down here in Rockville I was Bar Mitzvah'd in. We pretty much did the whole nine yards--caterer, band, open bar, etc.

Our best decision by miles was pouncing on the band leader's suggestion of allowing some time for friends to come up and read a poem or do a song if so inclined. We wound up with a set of "one-shots" in the middle of the reception--folkmew hosted, she and edstauff also sang a song, as did thatcrazycajun, filker0 and spiritdance, and an aunt of mine, and suecochran read a poem. And my dad sang a short piece with his choir mates. Folks are still talking three years later about how lovely the reception was--even the terminally mundane relatives were impressed!
