I am not posting this out there in the public internets because I don't want to be overrun by rabid fans.

I have not read Twilight.

Despite being (a) an English teacher
who is (b) very interested in YA lit
and (c) likes to keep tabs on what's going on in the genre
and (d) has been told by any number of 14-year-olds how Twilight is teh awesome and totally made of win!
and (e) is someone who generally likes paranormal-type stories...

I have absolutely zero interest in reading Twilight.

It may be that I've read way too much ABOUT Twilight, and Stephenie Meyer, to want to even go anywhere near it. Here are just a few reasons why:

1. I read that Stephenie Meyer doesn't like vampire stories and did ZERO research on vampire mythology. She just made up her own stuff. Now, while fiction is all about making up your own stuff, I don't see why she had to make it up about a creature that already has a well-established mythology.
2. I'm not sure I could handle the angsty teen drama of it all.
3. I read a brief excerpt of the most recent book in Entertainment Weekly, and OMG, it was dreadful. Laughably so.
4. I've heard from more than one person (and read similar critiques on the web) that the Bella/Edward relationship is sorta creepy.
5. I like teenage girl heroines who actually DO stuff (see: Buffy, Veronica Mars, Hermione, etc) as opposed to mooning about and following boys around (again, based on hearsay).
6. Sparkly vampires? Really?

I'm sure I have more, but I'll leave it at that for now. I'd be interested in hearing thoughts from anyone who HAS actually read it. ;)
